The docket

How a case runs

From first call to resolution, the file moves through three stages. You know the next step and the cost at each one.

  1. Consultation

Free 45-minute review, in person or by video. We tell you whether there is a claim, the range it may be worth, and the deadlines that apply.

  2. Strategy

A written plan: the path, the timeline, the documents we need from you, and the fee terms. Work starts only after you sign the engagement letter.

  3. Resolution

We negotiate first and try the case when that serves you better. You approve every settlement figure, with a file update every two weeks.

How our fees work

We use three fee structures, and the one that applies to your matter is named in your engagement letter before any work begins.

  • Contingency on injury cases: the fee is a percentage of the recovery, so there is no legal fee if we do not recover money for you.
  • Flat fee on estate planning and most criminal defense: one agreed price for the whole matter, paid up front.
  • Hourly on business litigation and probate, billed against a retainer with a monthly statement you can read line by line.

Court filing fees and expert costs are separate and always disclosed in advance. Ask about any of this in your free consultation.
